3-Ingredient DIY Natural All-Purpose Cleaner with Essential Oils

by | DIY Recipes, Essential Oils

When I think about the one area that I am constantly cleaning, it’s my kitchen counters. Since my kitchen spray is something I come in contact with every day, it made sense to try a DIY all-purpose cleaner as a natural alternative. At first, I started buying Mrs. Meyer’s Kitchen Spray. I don’t mind it, but it still contains synthetics and I can’t guarantee the purity and potency of the essential oils that are in it.

Plus every time I used up the product, I felt guilty throwing the bottle away and purchasing another. It’s consumer heaven over here in America and I cringe every time I put something in the garbage or recycling… I think ‘Where is this actually going to end up!?’

So that’s what sparked it…I already use doTERRA essential oils and have been reading about the antibacterial and purifying properties of On Guard, and how it helps block unwanted pathogens or bacteria, so I found a recipe and I’ve been using it ever since. The ‘Protective Blend’ (On Guard) is a powerful disinfectant and is very effective in supporting the immune system (i.e- it knows how to kill bacteria). It relieves a runny nose, coughs, or night sweats, etc. The smell of Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus, and Orange combine to create a heavenly scent and my counters always smell wonderful after I use my DIY all-purpose cleaner.

I don’t question the quality of my all-purpose cleaner anymore because I know the 3 ingredients it’s comprised and I’m reassured of its effectiveness knowing the quality, potency, and strength of essential oils.

Watch the video below to see the recipe in action, then keep reading to see the recipe notes!

If you’re wondering if essential oils really do kill germs, I found this independent study conducted by a biochemist. She tested a lot of different essential oil blends and the conclusion is very positive. Read more if you really want to get into the nitty-gritty.

So there we have it – I save money, the environment and my kitchen counters, all thanks to this DIY All Purpose Cleaner.

So here it is… the recipe you’ve been waiting for:

Ingredients:

  • 1 x 16 oz Glass Amber Bottle (Don’t use plastic as EO’s can permeate plastic bottles)
  • ¼ cup White Vinegar
  • 1 ¾ cup Water
  • 30 drops of On Guard Essential Oil

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients to the glass spray bottle
  2. Shake well
  3. Get your spray on :)

Recipe Notes:

I’ve been reading that you should not use vinegar sprays on porous marble or granite as it can cause etching. So use discretion when deciding which surfaces to spray on!

What Essential Oils Are In OnGuard?

  • Wild Orange Peel
  • Clove Bud
  • Cinnamon Bark
  • Eucalyptus Leaf
  • Rosemary Leaf/Flower

I LOVE homemade cleaning spray! With chemical sensitivities in our home, we’ve been avoiding the store bought stuff for years. And that study is very interesting (and reassuring!) — thanks so much for sharing! ?

Yes, I am very happy I found that study… My counters are clean, my skin is happy (I don’t need to wear gloves) and I save the environment by using a glass bottle!

I’ve been wanting to make my own counter cleaner for months! I found out that the one I’ve been using is quite dangerous/chemical-laden. Time for a change up! I LOVE On Guard and just ordered more. Now I just need to buy the bottles on Amazon! Thanks for sharing this!
