Even Better Than A New Year’s Resolution PLUS A Mindful Holiday Activity!

by | Lifestyle Advice

I’ve been doing this for the past 3 years and it seems to really work.

We all know sticking to a New Year’s resolution can be hard. We start the year fully energized with all of the plans and actions we are going to take and then… LIFE HAPPENS. Suddenly getting up at 7am to get to yoga class or to start your exercise routine seems less ideal than it was in January.

I love reflecting on the year past and the new year to come because it creates a renewed sense of hope and energy.

But what if you didn’t have to struggle with coming up with a New Year’s resolution? What if you just set ONE intention for the New Year?

I’ve been doing this for the past 3 years and it seems to really work. I found that by setting my intention I ended up accomplishing more than if I tried to make a laundry list of To Dos to accomplish.

These have been my intentions:

  • 2016 = FOCUS
  • 2017 = CLARITY
  • 2018 = CONSISTENCY
2017 Was My Year Of CLARITY.

2017 was my year of CLARITY. Because I was so intent with getting clear about the direction of my work and life, I ended up reading A LOT of books (which I honestly haven’t done too much since college), I found myself a life coach, went to more marketing conferences, networked and met new people, formed mastermind groups and started journaling. Now that I’m reflecting back on the year, I feel that it was full of accomplishments and I’m much more clear on my purpose and direction in life.

Here’s another example – You’ve chosen the word ‘Balance’. You’ll most likely find that with this intention you’ll naturally migrate to activities relating to finding more ‘Balance’ in your life. This could include trying meditation, doing yoga, taking long walks, creating more time for yourself, taking more baths, doing more spiritual work, etc.

But, I also suggest taking this one step further and I find a crystal that will help amplify my intent.

I Google ‘crystal for (word of intent)’, and then find a necklace with that crystal in it and wear it for the year. It’s just another way to help put as much power into my intent as possible.

These are the ones I’ve used in the past.

  • FOCUS = Tiger’s Eye
  • CLARITY = Quartz
  • CONSISTENCY = Snowflake Obsidian

A Mindful Holiday Conversation

Try this with your family around the holidays and ask your loved ones for their WORD of intention. It’s a great way to have a mindful conversation and really break the ice with your family about all of your hopes and dreams for the next year.

Here’s a list of some intentions to help get you started:

  • PEACE
  • LOVE
  • FAMILY
  • LET GO
  • BALANCE
  • COURAGE
  • TRAVEL
  • FREEDOM
  • RELAX
  • GRATEFUL
  • FOCUS
  • IMPACT

In fact I’ve found a company that also values this as much as I do! It’s called myintent.org and you can create an intention bracelet as a daily reminder of your hopes, dreams, or what matters most. Simple and fun for the whole family.
